Trapview is an established agrotech scale-up coming out of Slovenia and with 5 subsidiaries around the world. The company has created a world-leading automated pest monitoring and forecasting platform, which will help make the food we eat healthier.
We talked with Trapview COO Bostjan Bozic at the Scale 100 Forum in Athens, Greece to find out how exactly a digital platform will lead to better quality food, what are the company’s biggest challenges and successes, as well as Trapview’s participation in the EIC Scaling Club.

Monitoring pests for smarter crop protection
Trapview’s approach to crop protection centres on its automated pest monitoring system. The company deploys devices in fields that capture images of pest insects. These images are then analysed using advanced machine vision technology. This data, combined with other field-collected information, feeds into machine learning algorithms to identify trends and forecast the development of pest insect populations.
"With this information the decision-makers are able to better decide when and where is the optimal time to apply crop protection."
This precise insight allows for targeted and timely interventions, significantly reducing the indiscriminate use of pesticides and leading to healthier food.
A diverse team powered by a strong mission
Trapview’s success is built upon a highly diverse and specialised team. While Bostjan primarily categorises Trapview as an IT development company, its ranks include specialists in data science, agronomy, and computer science, boasting multiple PhDs.
"This unique blend makes us one of the global leaders in automated pest monitoring and forecasting."
The company's core mission is to "provide healthier food for people in the world." And it’s already doing just that.
Trapview is actively monitoring over 60 different insect species across more than 60 countries, with several thousand devices deployed in a wide variety of crops, from apples to soybeans and tomatoes. Bostjan highlights the direct impact of their work: “We are all affected by the fact that less pesticides are applied because of Trapview. That means we’re eating healthier food”. Moreover, their extensive database of pest-related images further enhances the accuracy of their algorithms, giving them a significant edge over competitors.
Common challenges, remarkable successes
Like any growing company, Trapview has encountered its share of challenges, ranging from securing funding and talent acquisition to navigating regulations and entering new markets. "All of these we have faced and some – we’re still facing," Bostjan says.
Despite these challenges, Trapview boasts numerous successes. As a company in its "teenage years," it has shown remarkable growth and maturity. Key milestones include the deployment of several thousand devices worldwide and the establishment of five subsidiaries in focus markets, cementing its status as a multinational entity. According to Bostjan, perhaps the biggest achievement so far is the recognition their brand has garnered:
"Our brand is already recognised as a market-leading brand in our niche, this is particularly rewarding for us."
Entering a new level with the EIC Scaling Club
As Trapview continues its journey of growth and maturity, the company is looking to the EIC Scaling Club for crucial support. For Bostjan, it’s a way to bring the company to a new level: “As I said, we are facing some challenges when trying to grow, so we would like to get support in our growth.”
This support extends beyond increasing revenue or organic expansion – Trapview seeks assistance in the broader maturation of the company. Their participation in the EIC Scaling Club is a strategic move to leverage a network that can help them overcome present and future challenges, ultimately furthering their mission of delivering healthier food globally.
